Paint Correction in Irinjalakuda & Thrissur | Menora We2 Auto Detailing Studio

During one inspection last summer, we put a four-year-old black sedan under our LED detailing lights. The owner had been washing it every week and assumed the dullness was just how older paint looks. Under the lights, the bonnet was covered in a dense web of swirl marks — circular scratches running in every direction, the signature of years of roadside car washes and rough cloth wipes. Two hours of machine polishing later, that same bonnet was reflecting clearly for the first time in years. The owner asked if we had resprayed it. We had not touched the colour. We had simply removed the damage sitting on top of it.

What Is Paint Correction?

Your car's clear coat is the transparent outermost layer that gives paint its gloss and depth. Swirl marks, fine scratches, holograms, water spot etching, and light oxidation all live within this layer. Paint correction uses machine polishing to remove a microscopic, controlled amount of clear coat — levelling the surface below the depth of the defects. The damage is not filled or hidden. It is physically removed.

This is different from waxing or applying a sealant, which deposit a soft temporary layer over defects without removing them. Paint correction produces a permanent result — the defects are gone until new damage is introduced.

It is also the essential preparation step before any ceramic or graphene coating. A coating seals the surface permanently. Any swirl marks or holograms present at application are locked in for the full warranty period. Correction before coating is what determines whether a coated car looks exceptional or merely protected.

Why Kerala Paint Deteriorates Faster

Roadside and Automatic Car Washes
The single biggest cause of swirl marks we see in our studio. Roadside stations use the same rags across dozens of cars, picking up grit with every pass. Automatic wash brushes run at speed across the clear coat. Both introduce fine scratches with every use. A car washed weekly at these facilities accumulates enough damage within two years to visibly dull the paint in direct light.

Laterite Dust and Monsoon Grime
Central Kerala's fine red dust is abrasive. When even a light layer is wiped off without a proper pre-rinse, it drags across the clear coat like fine sandpaper. Multiplied across years of daily driving, this produces the swirled finish we see on almost every older car in the region.

UV Oxidation
Cars parked outdoors through Kerala's summers accumulate heavy UV loading. Without a protective coating, the clear coat oxidises and dulls progressively. On black or dark-coloured vehicles this is most visible — a corrective cut is the only way to remove the degraded layer and restore the original depth.

Our Process

Paint Thickness Check and Defect Mapping
We measure clear coat depth on every panel with a digital gauge before touching the paint. Under our inspection lights we map swirl marks, holograms, oxidation, and any deeper scratches that polishing cannot fix. We share these findings with you before work begins.

Decontamination Wash
A foam pre-wash, chemical iron remover, and clay bar pass remove all surface contamination. Starting machine work on a contaminated surface creates new scratches rather than removing existing ones.

Correction Stages
Light defects: single-stage correction with a medium-cut compound. Significant swirling, holograms, or oxidation: two-stage process — heavier cutting first, refining second. Compound and pad selection is matched to your specific paint hardness, not a fixed routine applied to every car.

IPA Check and Handover
Every panel is wiped with IPA solution after polishing to strip compound fillers and reveal the true surface. We re-inspect under multiple lighting angles before the car is released.

Protecting Corrected Paint
• Wash with pH-neutral automotive shampoo only — household soaps accelerate clear coat degradation.
• Two-bucket method every time: one bucket soapy water, one bucket rinse water with grit guard.
• Dry with a clean microfibre towel — dirty cloths re-scratch a corrected surface immediately.
• Avoid automatic car washes — they will re-swirl the paint within a few visits.
