Paint Protection Film in Irinjalakuda & Thrissur | Menora We2 Auto Detailing Studio
Earlier this year, a brand-new Fortuner came into our Irinjalakuda studio with stone chip damage on the bonnet and front bumper. The owner had collected it from the showroom three weeks earlier. The damage had come from a single highway drive between Thrissur and Chalakudy — loose gravel from road construction work had done what it always does to unprotected factory paint. He asked if we could fix it. We could, but the better conversation was about making sure it did not happen again.
That is the situation PPF is designed for. Paint Protection Film is a thermoplastic polyurethane layer applied directly over the paint surface. Unlike ceramic or graphene coatings, which protect against chemical and UV damage, PPF absorbs physical impacts — stone chips, gravel strikes, minor abrasion, and parking scuffs. The two types of protection are different, and for high-impact areas like the bonnet, front bumper, and mirrors, PPF is the one that prevents the damage from happening in the first place.
At Menora We2 Auto Detailing Studio, we install professional Paint Protection Film in Irinjalakuda and Thrissur. This page covers what PPF does, where it matters most in Kerala conditions, and how our installation process works
What Is Paint Protection Film?
PPF is a clear, self-healing polyurethane film that bonds to the painted surface of your vehicle. It typically ranges from 6 to 8 mil in thickness — enough to absorb the energy of stone chips and minor impacts without transferring that damage to the paint underneath.
Modern PPF has a self-healing topcoat. Fine surface scratches and light swirl marks in the film surface disappear when the film is exposed to heat — from sunlight or warm water. The film recovers its surface clarity without any polishing required.
PPF does not replace ceramic coating. The two serve different purposes and work well together. PPF handles physical protection on the panels most exposed to impact. Ceramic coating provides chemical resistance, UV protection, and hydrophobic performance across the whole car. Applied together, they cover both categories of paint damage comprehensively
Why PPF Matters on Kerala Roads
Stone Chips from Road Construction
Central Kerala has seen sustained road construction and widening work across most major routes for several years. Loose gravel, aggregate, and stone debris on highways between Thrissur, Irinjalakuda, Chalakudy, and Angamaly means front bonnets and bumpers on cars travelling these routes collect chips consistently. A single drive on a freshly laid or broken road surface can produce multiple impact marks that go straight through the clear coat to the primer.
Narrow Roads and Parking Conditions
Kerala's older town centres — Irinjalakuda, Guruvayoor, Chavakkad, Kunnamkulam — have narrow roads and tight parking areas where brushes from branches, walls, and passing vehicles are common. Door edges, mirrors, and bumper corners are particularly vulnerable. PPF on these areas absorbs minor abrasion that would otherwise produce visible paint transfer and scuffing.
Monsoon Debris and Organic Contamination
During the monsoon season, roads carry a mix of sand, mud, and organic debris that hits the lower panels and wheel arches at speed. Combined with bird droppings and tree sap from parking under roadside trees — unavoidable during Kerala summers — the front panels of an unprotected car accumulate damage that compounds over time.
What PPF Delivers
Impact Absorption on High-Risk Panels
The bonnet and front bumper take the majority of stone chip damage on any vehicle. PPF on these panels means gravel and road debris strike the film rather than the paint. The film absorbs and distributes the impact energy. The paint underneath stays intact.
Self-Healing Surface Clarity
Light surface marks in the film — from car wash brushes, minor abrasion, or fine swirl marks — disappear with heat exposure. A car parked in Kerala's sun for an hour typically shows noticeable self-healing in the film surface. The optical clarity of the film is maintained without any additional work from the owner.
Factory Paint Preserved for Resale
Original, undamaged factory paint carries significant value at the point of sale. Stone chip repairs, touched-up panels, and respray work are immediately visible to a careful buyer and reduce the car's value accordingly. PPF keeps the factory paint in its original condition for the full period it is installed.
Our PPF Installation Process
Surface Inspection and Paint Correction
We inspect the paint under our LED detailing lights before installation begins. Any existing swirl marks or surface defects are corrected by machine polishing before the film goes on — defects visible under the film will remain there permanently once it is applied.
Decontamination Wash and Clay Bar
A full decontamination wash removes surface contamination. A clay bar pass extracts embedded particles from the paint surface. The film adhesive requires a completely clean, smooth surface for a proper bond.
Precision Cutting and Panel Fitment
Film panels are cut to the exact dimensions of your vehicle's body panels using precision software templates. We apply a slip solution to position the film accurately before squeegee-pressing it into final position, working out moisture and air progressively from the centre outward.
Edge Tucking and Heat Setting
Where the panel geometry allows, film edges are wrapped behind panel borders and inside door jambs to keep the edge hidden and prevent lifting. Heat guns are used to set the adhesive firmly at all edges and complex curves.
Final Inspection and Handover
We inspect every installed panel under multiple lighting conditions before the car is released. We check for edge lifting, bubbles, contamination under the film, and optical clarity across the installation. We brief you on the first-week care requirements before handover.
PPF Aftercare
• Do not wash the car or expose it to heavy rain for 48–72 hours after installation. This allows the adhesive to cure fully.
• Wash in shade using pH-neutral shampoo and a clean microfibre mitt. Avoid automatic brush car washes.
• Keep pressure washer nozzles at least 30 cm from film edges — direct high-pressure spray at edges can cause lifting over time.
• Wipe bird droppings and tree sap off promptly with a soft microfibre cloth. Extended contact with acidic contamination can mark the film surface permanently.
• For the self-healing function to work on light marks, park in direct sunlight or rinse with warm water.
PPF Pricing: Free Inspection at Our Studio
PPF cost depends on the panels covered, the film grade selected, the vehicle's body panel complexity, and whether paint correction is required before installation. A full bonnet and bumper package on a compact car is a different job from a full-body installation on a large SUV.
